everyone knows that Borland is a great company. The problem is they are not perfect either.
Recently I have encountered several problems:
- non existing files were marked to be licensed under GPL and the correct files were not marked to be licensed under GPL therefore implicitly forbiding
- Borland did not provide Qt source patches, though the description provided in the file DEPLOY leads to think, that they have really done that.
History of my communication with Borland will be provided here.

Hi Jose,
Merry Christmas to you too! :)
kylixlibs3 source is a problematic issue - Borland has released kylix
libraries under GPL, but they did not provide source code. This is
what is said in Kylix 3 OE file "DEPLOY":
-- begin excerpt from file DEPLOY --
2.6a GPL applications using VisualCLX
---------------------------------------
There is a dependency on the Qt libraries in VisualCLX. If you
distribute a GPL application that uses VisualCLX you are also
required to either ship the source to the Qt/X11 Free Edition
libraries or provide this link to downloadable source:
ftp://ftp.trolltech.com/qt/source/qt-x11-2.3.0.tar.gz. Also,
several of these files were patched. Patches of the diffs
are available on the CD-ROM or in the downloadable archive
in the /patches/qt directory and affect the following files:
from qt/src/kernel
qclipboard_X11.cpp in
qdragobject.cpp
qlocalfs.cpp
qmime.cpp
qwidget_X11.cpp
from qt/src/network
qftp.cpp
from qt/src/tools
qbig5codec.cpp
qstring.cpp
from qt/src/widgets
qlistview.cpp
qtextbrowswer.cpp
-- end excerpt from file DEPLOY --
I've been looking for the files in the dowloadable archive, but could
not find them. :/ I am going to enquire Borland about this issue...
Do you think you could proceed building .ebuild file for kylixlibs
without source for a while? As I do not expect to receive an answer
from Borland soon.
I am currently working on qixite version 0.0.7 :) - it's nice to have
christmas hollidays :) for that :)

I have not looked at these yet, but I am going to do it today...
Thanks...

Qt source patch 3

Subject: Kylix3 OE Qt libraries source code missing, it is required by GPL
Dear Madam or Sir,
I am user of Kylix 3 OE. And as my programs are licenced under GPL I
have to provide source of GPL'ed Qt libraries (The ones that come with
Kylix 3 OE)... The file DEPLOY seems to explain where the source can
be found, the problem is that explanation is inaqurate and the source
files are not supplied at all:
-- begin excerpt from file DEPLOY --
2.6a GPL applications using VisualCLX
---------------------------------------
There is a dependency on the Qt libraries in VisualCLX. If you
distribute a GPL application that uses VisualCLX you are also

I've been looking for the files in the dowloadable Kylix 3 OE archive,
but could not find them.
Can you provide me the sources of Qt library patches in order to
comply with GPL?

Qt source patch 4

Subject: Kylix 3 OE, qt source paches are missing from downloadable archive
Date: Wed, 25 Dec 2002 18:08:43 +0000
Newsgroups: borland.public.install.kylix
Dear Borland support staff,
I have recently installed Kylix 3 OE and I cannot find a qt library
source patches, the ones that are described in section 2.6a in the file
DEPLOY.
Where can I get these files as they should be part of Kylix3 OE
installation as far as I understand.
